Hunt Seat Team Braves Rough Weather to Compete at GSU

"

Statesboro, GA - On Saturday Feb. 6th, the Wesleyan College hunt seat team traveled to Georgia Southern to continue its spring season.

Despite less than ideal weather conditions, all of the team members put in clean rides in talented company. Navigating the hard rain and iffy footing took a certain level of experience, but returning team members Ashaunti Samms and Maria Rodriguez proved that they have learned a considerable amount during their years on the team. Both Samms and Rodriguez rode to third place finishes in large classes. Samms' ride on Saturday earned her enough points to place into the Advanced walk/trot/canter division, joining fellow team members Caroline Thompson and Brittany Pye, and she will make her debut in that class at Clemson University.

"I am very proud of the effort that our team put in this weekend during some pretty rough weather,"" stated Wesleyan head coach Jessica Denniston. ""Every one of our riders went in with a job to do, and they got that job done. I am especially proud of Ashaunti for such a beautiful ride, Brittany for quickly finessing through one mistake in her ride, and Maria for really focusing in the arena even with a fairly tough horse to ride. These three returners have really worked hard this season and it shows."

The hunt seat and the western teams will both travel to Clemson University on Feb. 20-21 to compete in a regular season hunt seat show and western regionals.
