Thompson Earns Regional Qualification at USC Show

Blythewood, SC - The Wesleyan College IHSA hunt seat team traveled to the University of South Carolina over the weekend for back to back competitions on Saturday and Sunday. Over the course of the weekend, the Wesleyan riders took home several top finishes that were highlighted by team captain Caroline Thompson earning a regionals qualification as a result of her performances.

On Saturday, senior Caroline Thompson and freshman Ashlee Slack got the day started with first place finishes in the Advanced walk/trot/canter division, while senior Yuting Bai earned a second place ribbon for her ride in the walk/trot divison. Fifth place finishes were awarded to freshman Cassity Boothe in the Novice flat division, to freshmen Meagan Giannetti and Catherenne Hogeland in the Advanced walk/trot/canter division, and to sophomore Anna Latimer in the Beginner walk/trot/canter division. Finally, senior Ashaunti Samms rounded out a productive Saturday with a sixth place finish in the Advanced walk/trot/canter division.

On Sunday, the team returned to competition with captain Samms improving to a second place finish in her Advanced walk/trot/canter ride. Thompson placed second in the same division, and that ride officially qualified her for Regionals competition and moved her up to the Novice division of competition for the remainder of the season. Sunday came to a close with freshman Ashlee Slack taking home a third place ribbon in the Advanced/walk/trot canter division.

The hunt seat team will travel to Clemson this weekend for its next competition on Sunday, October 23.
