"

Greenwood, SC - The Wesleyan College Western IHSA Equestrian team kicked off the spring show season at Lander University with two shows on Saturday, January 28.
Junior Beth Randolph earned a fourth place finish in the Intermediate 1 division, while three Wesleyan riders placed in the Intermediate 2 division. Freshman Meagan Giannetti finished in third place, senior Ashaunti Samms in fifth place, and senior Caroline Thompson in sixth place.
During the afternoon show, senior Ashaunti Samms improved her finish in the Intermediate 2 division, earning fourth place, and sophomore Maria Randall brought home her first ribbon of the year with a sixth place finish in the walk/jog division. The team also welcomed Abigail Vines to its ranks, and she debuted in the Advanced division with a fourth place finish.
""The team did a great job of supporting each other during our first show back after winter break and were great about keeping each others' spirits up despite the cold weather and fresh horses,"" remarked Wesleyan head coach Jessica Denniston. ""I am very proud of the rides that everyone put in, and it was wonderful to see all of our riders put their knowledge to work in the arena when things got tough. I am especially proud of Ashaunti Samms for sticking to the saddle when her horse got excited and showing poise through the entire ordeal. Ashaunti has grown into an effective rider and leader over the past four years and it was wonderful to see her demonstrate all she has learned when the going got tough.""
The Wolves Hunt Seat IHSA team will open the spring season at Georgia Southern this Saturday, February 4.
