Equestrian Team Preparing For A Run At Regionals

Equestrian Team Preparing For A Run At Regionals

Cheer On the Wesleyan Equestrian Team as they head off this weekend for the last regular season IHSA Hunt Seat Horse Show in Aiken SC on Saturday 3/4/2023.

Wesleyan Equestrian Team has 10 members this year with 8 members seriously competing:

Taylor Kankowski (SR)

Daebreon Buie (JR)

Emily Evans (JR)

Georgia Comer (JR)

Wren Lawrence (FR)

Nieve Leyne (FR)

Alma Sheputa (FR)

Olivia Troyer (FR)

Sydney Echols (FR) - limited competition this year.

Kira Williams (FR) - did not compete this year.

IHSA riders compete at the level determined appropriate by IHSA based on experience and show history. They compete at that level and earn points based on placings with the goal to Point Up to the next level of competition and earn a spot to compete at Regionals after the regular season. They lost 2 shows in the fall due to hurricane cancellation so it has been a challenge to qualify for Regionals. It is very difficult for anyone to qualify for Regionals in just one competition year, but they carry over points from the previous year.

Wesleyan Equestrian Team is very excited to announce the team members who have qualified for Zone 5 Region 3 IHSA Hunt Seat Regionals and will compete on Sunday 3/5/2023 in Aiken SC:

Emily Evans - Class 1 Intro

Daebreon Buie - Class 1 Intro

Georgia Comer - Class 2B Novice

Taylor Kankowski - Class 3 Limit Flat

Coach Catherine Texter Baker - Alumni Flat

This is a big group qualified! They have ridden in cold and wet, and hot and muggy conditions since September and their dedication has paid off with a ticket to Regionals! They are giving up the first weekend of spring break to compete for Wesleyan!

The Dressage riders will travel to Ocala, Fl on 3/10/23 to compete on Saturday and Sunday so 6 team members will be giving up the second weekend of spring break to compete for Wesleyan!

Taylor Kankowski (SR)

Daebreon Buie (JR)

Emily Evans (JR)

Georgia Comer (SO)

Nieve Leyne (FR)

Olivia Troyer (FR)

IDA riders earn points based on placings and the one with the most points at each level at the end of regular season advances to the IDA Nationals in Lexington, VA in April. We have 3 members who, at the halfway point, are doing well and have a chance to go to IDA Nationals:

Taylor Kankowski (SR)

Emily Evans (FR)

Nieve Leyne (FR)

We are very proud of the effort these ladies have made and the progress that has been made in their competitive riding. Please cheer them on as they compete over the next two weekends.
