Softball falls twice in season opener double header

(Macon, GA) An early lead for Covenant proves to be too difficult for a comeback in the Wolves season opener Wednesday night.  Giving up 8 hits and 6 earned runs, Senior Valerie Clower recorded the loss on the mound for the Wolves. The Wolves were only able to record one run as freshman Kassidy Hulett crossed the plate on an RBI from classmate Kendra Roach in the bottom of the sixth.  The Wolves totaled 5 hits in the first contest and stranded 7 runners on base as they settled in for the 2017-18 season against an already proven Covenant squad.

With the first game jitters out, Covenant once again scored early and often with 2 unanswered runs in the first and second inning each, and their 5th run of the game in the 3rd.  The Wolves rallied getting their bats moving in the 4th inning scoring 4 runs inching closer to the Scots lead.  Holding at 5-4 with the Scots on top, neither team was able to push another run across the plate as the Scots survived a late rally by the Wolves. Valerie Clower cashed in one of the Wolves runs with an RBI single while first year Yasnei Llavore knocked a run in with the only double of the day. Shelby Crosby gave a valiant effort in her collegiate debut on the mound with 2 strikeouts, 3 earned runs, and 8 hits on the mound.

The Wolves continue with a non-conference double header at Agnes Scott today at 5 and 7 PM in Decatur.
