It's almost that time of year, as Wesleyan Softball is set to begin their 2019 campaign on February 10th. In her first season as both the Head Softball Coach, and Athletic Director at Wesleyan, Penny Siqueros is primed for success on the softball diamond. Coach Siqueiros has 20 years of experience and accolades as a Division III head coach from her time at Emory University in Atlanta. Siqueiros' Emory program went 29-12 in 2018 and 15-1 in conference, and she is taking over a Wesleyan program that is looking to build on last year's USA South post season berth, which was the first in school history. One would be hard pressed to find a more qualified candidate than Siqueiros to help the Wolves take the next big step in their development.

Coach Siqueiros had this to say as the opening game of 2019 grows closer. "For softball, we are incredibly excited about this upcoming season. We are very young yet we have some good talent that will let us work through our growth in the most positive of ways despite our youth. We also have great experience in addition to our talented young players. We've acquired some transfers that have been really positive for the program and we look forward to them being impact athletes. We also have inherited some athletes from other sports that have been a pleasant surprise that we're excited about. Attitudes are strong and I'm really looking forward to seeing how we do in the conference this year."

Coach Siqueiros was also excited to talk about new additions to softball facilities. "We are making some very aggressive facility upgrades, we are starting to transition our softball field into a softball complex. We are enclosing and heating the dugouts and eventually the press box.  There is new branding on its way.  All these wonderful things will enable us to build off former head Coach Dickey Hightower's field renovations.  This will enable our athletes to experience a very collegial setting and something extra they can be incredibly proud of.  We also look forward to everybody coming out to support our program and we welcome new fans!  We are young, yet we are eager. Go wolves!"

As previously stated, Wesleyan will kick their season off on Sunday, February the 10th when Sewanee University comes to town for a double header. Game times are 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM.
