Wolves Split With Nationally Ranked Reinhardt

WALESKA, GA - The Wolves softball team began a long road stand today against NAIA school, Reinhardt University. Reinhardt is a powerhouse in the NAIA beginning this past week ranked 21st in the country and second in their conference. Coach Penny Siqueiros told the team earlier this week that her staff planned some of the top tier programs on the early part of the schedule to help better prepare them for the tough conference schedule ahead; and today did not disappoint.

In game one, the Wolves found themselves down 1-0 going into the 7th inning where a homerun by Junior Emma McDonald tied the game at 1-1. During the 8th inning and using the International Tie Breaker rule, the Wolves were able to capitalize starting the inning with a runner on second base with a beautiful bunt by Freshman Presly Edwards to move Junior Kiara Binns to third followed by a single by Junior Sydney McDonald to score the run. The Wolves would again give up the lead in the bottom of the 8th with a score of 2-2. Moving to the 9th inning, the Wolves would continue their gameplan with Emma McDonald starting at second, Junior Jendayi Wright bunting her over to third on a beautifully placed bunt, and eventually, Freshman Alexis Wheeler hitting a single to score the winning run for the Wolves. The bottom of the 9th was equally dramatic and ended with some fireworks with a bang-bang play by Sydney McDonald at third to end the game.

Pitcher, Junior Kimmy Dick, pitched all nine innings with 7 strikeouts on the day.

Game two began as game one ended. Very close throughout the game with the Wolves taking the initial lead 1-0 in the second. Reinhardt quickly answered with a tying run. During the fourth, Reinhardt's bats came alive as they scored 8 runs in the fourth inning to ultimately take game two with a final of 10-2 in five innings.

The Wolves will be back in action Wednesday on the road at Middle Georgia State University at 1PM and 3PM.
