Wolves Softball Takes Two at Fort Valley State

The Wolves' softball team played in Fort Valley yesterday in a weekend double header against NCAA Division II Fort Valley State University. It was a beautiful day for softball and an awesome day for the Wolves both offensively and defensively. In game one, Tihana Zupanic controlled the game in the cirlce. Tihana ended the game with 13 strikeouts, three hits, and only one earned run. The defense played very cleanly behind her with no errors and several put outs. Offensively, all but three batters had hits on the day. Senior Kassidy Hulett went 2-4 with two RBI's. Sophomore Pippy Edwards added to the total with her 2-3 day with two RBI's. The Wolves took game one with a score of 6-1.

Game two would provide a tight match up until the last inning. Pitcher Kimmy Dick was in the cirlce for the Wolves and she pitched an incredible game. Kimmy ended the game adding seven strikeouts to her season total, allowing two earned runs on six hits. The Wolves' offense jumped on the board early scoring their first three runs in the first two innings. The Wildcats would then tie it up in their half of the second. The game would remain 3-3 until Freshman Ashleigh Woods would single in Emilee Stevenson to begin a scoring spree that would last the remainder of the game for the Wolves. The Wolves would then go on to score two runs in the 6th inning and six runs in the 7th inning. Savannah Pollock went 3-5 with 3 RBI in the game followed by Ashleigh Woods who went 1-3 with 3 RBI's. The Wolves took game two with a final score of 12-3.

"We are finding our rythm right now. We have worked so hard all through the fall and winter to get better and better. The scoreboards are beginning to show that. Today our approach was to stay lose, have fun, work hard, and finish two complete games with 100% tenacity and I think we did that today. Historically, we have come out the second game of a series a little flat. I think today we showed we can come out in the second game just as hot as we do the first. I am very proud of how we performed today and we look forward to starting conference play very soon," Head Coach Penny Siqueiros said of today's performance.

The Wolves will be back in action in a non-conference double header Saturday against Covenant College. Game times are 1PM and 3PM. Links for live stats and video will be posted when they become avaiable.
