Wolves Split with Piedmont. Playoff Picture Still Alive!
RECAP
Friday afternoon was a fine day to be a fan of Wesleyan Softball!  The Wolves took on the West Division leading Piedmont Lions and held them to a single run in the two games played.  In the opener, the Wolves blanked the Lions, 5-0 before succumbing in the second game, 1-0.  Historically speaking, this may have been the finest pair of games ever played by the Ladies in Purple!

With the win, Wesleyan's West Division record now stands at 6-6 and elevates the team into a tie for 3rd place in the West standings.  At the same time, the Wolves' season record improves to 12-12 vs. Division 3 teams.  Of the sixteen losses, however, a total of seven have been by a single run.  That's how close the Wolves came to registering a winning season.  Without a doubt, Wesleyan has made it official that it has arrived as a key player in the USA South Conference!

BATTING HIGHLIGHTS
Right fielder Ashleigh Woods was 3 for 3 with 2 runs scored in the first game and Savannah Pollock was 2 for 2 in the second game.  But the unquestioned batting hero for the day was center fielder Marilynn Nesmith.  In the 2nd inning of the first game, her single drove in the first run of the game.  And, in the 3rd inning, with the Wolves nursing a slim two-run lead, Nesmith stepped to the plate with the bases loaded and lined a double down the left line, driving in all three runs!  For the game, the senior outfielder from Macon had 2 hits in 3 at bats and 4 RBIs.  An outstanding effort by the Hometown Hero!

FIELDING
In the top of the 6th inning of the first game, shortstop Kassidy Hulett made a phenomenal play.  With runners on 2nd and 3rd, the Piedmont batter hit a laser shot into the area between shortstop and 3rd base.  Hulett took two steps to her right and dove into the hole, snaring the line drive and keeping the two runs from scoring.  Well done, Kassidy.  That's a play we'll all remember for a long time!

Also enjoying a great day was catcher Savannah Pollock who played a solid game behind the plate.  She caught both games of the double header and did a great job calling pitches and holding runners on base.  Those major factors that helped limit Piedmont but to a single run in the two games.  Super job, Savannah!

PITCHING HIGHLIGHTS
Kimberly Dick's performance in yesterday's double header against Piedmont solidified her place as one of the leading pitchers in the USA South Conference.  While starting and finishing both games, she limited the first-place Lions to a single run while yielding 10 hits, zero base on balls and notching 12 strike outs.  In the process, she held the Conference's leader hitter, Katelyn Perry, to a single in 5 at bats.  An absolutely outstanding effort, Kimberly!

LOOKING FORWARD
The Wesleyan Wolves close out their regular season on Monday, April 26th with a double header at home versus Covenant College.  The games are scheduled for 1:00pm and 3:00pm.  The Covenant Scots are one of three teams, including Wesleyan, tied for 3rd place in the West Division.  Tune in, fans, and let's cheer the Wolves to a potential second-place finish.
