Softball splits Double Header with 2nd place Huntingdon

MACON, GA -- The Wesleyan College Campus was relatively quiet over Easter Break minus the fireworks coming from our softball team as they split a doubleheader with the 2nd place team in the USA South's West Division on Friday night.
 
Huntingdon came out strong against our Wolves taking a 7-0 lead going into the bottom of the second inning but our Wolves with their never quit attitude started to battle their way back into the game.
 
Presly Edwards and Jasmine Staley had rbi singles bringing home 2 runs to close the gap to 7-2 after two full innings. In the 3rd inning Jendayi Wright excited the home fans with an inside the park home run as he sprinted around the bases to bring the score to 7-3.  
 
In the top of the 4th Huntingdon extended their lead to 8-3 only to see our Wolves score 3 runs behind a Jasmine Staley rbi single and a Sabrina Bowen 2 rbi double to tighten the game at 8-6.
 
In the top of the 6th Huntingdon again extended their lead to 10-6 but a Jendayi Wright rbi single in the bottom of the inning made it 10-7 going into the final inning.
 
Tihana Zupanic came on in relief of starting pitcher Kimmy Dick and pitched a scoreless top of the 7th inning setting up the home team's heroics. 
 
Our Wolves would not be denied in the bottom of the 7th inning down 3 runs at 10-7. Our Wolves got rbi singles from Jendayi Wright and Sabrina Bowen as well as a 2 rbi single by Jasmine Staley to tie the game at 10-10 and with the bases loaded Jendayi Wright came to bat. Jendayi Wright won the game as she was hit by a pitch forcing in the winning run and ending the 2 hour and 45 minute game between the 2 teams. 
 
In game 2 of the double header Huntingdon again came out of the gate strong grabbing a 5-0 lead. Our Wesleyan Wolves responded with 2 runs in the bottom of the first highlighted by a Tihana Zupanic rbi double making the score 5-2. In the bottom of the 2nd behind a Savannah Pollock rbi fielder's choice the Wolves closed the game to 5-4.
 
Huntingdon added 2 runs in the top of the 3rd making the score 7-4 and would not be denied adding 3 more insurance runs in the top of the 7th inning making the final score 10-4 in favor of Huntingdon. 
 
After almost 6 hours on the field the 2 teams shook hands in what was a hard fought double header split for the two teams. Huntingdon continued to hold the 2nd spot in the USA South West division while Wesleyan stayed in 5th place.
