Softball sweeps last home doubleheader from FVSU

MACON, GA -- The Wesleyan College Wolves took on local rival Fort Valley State University Wildcats on Tuesday afternoon for a non-conference home doubleheader.

In the first game, Presley Edwards opened the scoring in the bottom of the second inning, singling home Janae Rookard as the Wolves took a 1-0 lead. FVSU tied the score at 1-1 in the top of the 3rd inning only to see the Wolves take the lead back in the bottom of the inning on a Bailey Caldwell single which scored Savannah Pollock making the score 2-1. In the 4th inning Marilynn Nesmith singled, scoring Samantha Bowen for a 3-1 lead. Savannah Pollock followed with  a home run shot over the outfield fence, scoring Marilynn Nesmith for the final runs of the game and a 5-1 lead. Starting pitcher Kimmy Dick blanked the Wildcats the rest of the game finishing the game with an impressive 13 strikeouts without giving up an earned run moving the Wolves to 18-12 on the season.
 
In the 2nd game of the doubleheader the Wolves started Tihana Zupanic on the mound. Janae Rookard opened up the scoring with a 2 rbi single in the 2nd scoring Marilynn Nesmith and Bailey Caldwell. In the 3rd, Janae Rookard again came through with the rbi single scoring both  IJendayi Wright and Bailey Caldwell. A Sabrina Bowen rbi groundout scored Tihana Zupanic for a 5-0 Wolves lead. In the bottom of the 5th Janae Rookard delivered like federal express with another rbi single scoring Jendayi Wright. Sabrina Bowen followed with a 2 rbi single scoring Zupanic and Rookard with the final runs of the inning giving the Wolves an 8-0 rule run win in 5 innings. Tihana Zupanic worked 5 scoreless innings with 5 strikeouts getting the win and helping move the Wolves to 19-12 on the season.
 
The Wolves return to USA South Conference action this Saturday with a doubleheader at Brevard College in the final games of the 2022 regular season for Wesleyan College.
