Wesleyan Softball Defeats Maryville College in USA South Playoffs
MARYVILLE, TN -- The #5 seed Wesleyan College Wolves travelled to play the #4 seed host, Maryville College Scots in USA South Softball playoff action tonight. The Wolves opened the scoring in the first inning as lead off batter Marilynn Nesmith singled and with 1 out stole second base. Jendayi Wright came up with a 2 out single to put runners at 1st and 3rd. Tihana Zupanic came to bat and Wright stole 2nd base. Zupanic then singled plating 2 runs as the Wolves scored for their first time at Maryville College this season. 
 
Kimmy Dick pitched a scoreless bottom of the first inning and then the game became a pitchers duel over the next five innings as neither team could score and Wesleyan maintained their 2-0 lead going into the top of the 7th inning.
With two out Marilynn Nesmith tripled down the right field corner. Savannah Pollock came up and punched a ground ball single through the right side scoring Nesmith for a 3-0 Wolves lead. Bailey Caldwell then doubled down the right field line and Savannah Pollock scooted all the way from 1st to home for a 4-0 Wesleyan lead. 
 
Kimmy Dick continued her stellar pitching finishing with a 3 hit, shutout of the Scots while ringing up 8 strikeouts. Seven Wolves had 10 total hits including 2 hits a piece for Nesmith, Wright, and Pollock. The Wolves defense also played error free softball for the night and earned the right to advance to the 4 team double elimination pod at Pfeiffer University in Misenheimer, NC where they will face #1 seed Pfeiffer University on Thursday, April 28th at 2 pm.
