#5 West Seed Wesleyan Wolves upset #1 East Seed Pfeiffer University
Meisenheimer, NC -- The #5 seed Wesleyan Wolves upset #1 seed Pfeiffer University in opening action of the 4 team, double elimination tournament hosted by Pfeiffer University. 
 
The Pfeiffer Falcons opened the game strong with a 2 run first inning and added a 3rd run in the bottom of the 2nd inning to lead the Wolves 3-0 after 2 innings. Wesleyan started chipping away at the lead in the top of the 3rd inning. Jasmine Staley doubled to left center and advanced to 3rd on an error by the second baseman. Savannah Pollock then doubled down the left field line scoring Staley to make the score 3-1 in favor of the Falcons.
 
After two scoreless innings by both teams the Wolves struck again in the top of the 6th inning as Jendayi Wright singled to center with 1 out. She stole second base and advanced to 3rd base on a wild pitch. Tihana Zupanic hit a sac fly to deep left field allowing Wright to score and bringing the Wolves to within one run at 3-2.
 
Then the fireworks started from our Cardiac Wolves. Down to their last out, in the top of the 7th inning the Wolves Jasmine Staley came up and singled to right. Marilynn Nesmith followed with a single up the middle. Savannah Pollock was hit by a pitch loading the bases. Bailey Caldwell worked a walk forcing in Staley with the tying run. Jendayi Wright then had a 2 rbi single to right scoring Nesmith and Pollock and making the score 5-3 Wolves. Tihana Zupanic then singled in Bailey Caldwell to make the score 6-3 as the Wolves scored 4 runs with 2 outs in the top of the 7th inning. 
 
Starting pitcher Kimmy Dick strode to the mound for the bottom of the 7th innings but the Falcons were not finished. An error, single, and a walk and Pfeiffer had loaded the bases with no outs. Kimmy Dick facing the Falcons #3 hitter Griffin, who already had a double and rbi on the day, recorded her first out of the inning with an important strike out. She then had to face #4 hitter Chopko who had already collected a single and double earlier in the game and got her to pop out to second base. Setting up a bases load battle with one of the Falcons best HR hitters, #5 hitter Mickles who fouled off 5 pitches before striking out to end the game. 
 
The Wolves advance in the winner's bracket and play the winner of today's 4 pm game between #2 West Seed Huntingdon College vs #3 East Seed William Peace University. The game will be played at 2PM Friday and can be seen on live stream by going to the Pfeiffer University softball website.
