Wesleyan clips #2 West Seed Huntingdon College 4-3

Misenheimer, NC. The #5 West Seed Wesleyan College Wolves took on fellow USA South western division for the #2 W Seed Huntingdon College Hawks this afternoon winning 4-3 in a close action filled game.. 

Huntingdon College was aggressive from the start as lead off batter Ritchey singled and tried to stretch it to a double but was thrown out at second base by center fielder Marilynn Nesmith. Another hit and a walk had runners on 1st & 2nd with 1 out. Starting pitcher Kimmy Dick induced a pop up for out number 2 and catcher Presly Edwards threw out a Huntingdon runner who was attempting to steal 3rd showing off some great defense by the Wolves.
 
In the second inning Huntingdon again got runners on base opening with a walk and a single. After a fielder's choice put runners on 1st and 3rd  the game's 1st run was scored on a passed ball as Huntingdon took a 1-0 lead. Wesleyan came right back in the bottom half of the inning as Tihana Zupanic opened with a double to deep left center and Janae Rookard hit a rbi double down the right field line scoring Zupanic and tying the game at 1-1.  
 
Marilynn Nesmith opened the bottom of the 3rd with a single and advanced to 3rd base on a 2 base error. But 3 ground outs later she was left stranded at 3rd keeping the score tied at 1-1. In the bottom of the 3rd Huntingdon threatened again only to have Marilynn Nesmith catch a fly ball and double off the run at 2nd base for an inning ending double play.
 
In the top of the 4th Huntingdon worked a walk and attempted to sacrifice the runner to second base but a driving catch by Tihana Zupanic thwarted the attempt for the 1st out of the inning and the Wesleyan defense was again up to the task allowing no runs. In the bottom of the 4th inning Wesleyan's Tihana Zupanic opened with a single, Janae Rookard walked, Sabrina Bowen's sac bunt put runners on 2nd and 3rd. Presly Edwards' hit to right field was too tough to handle and forced a  Huntingdon error allowing Zupanic to score. Jasmine Staley followed with a single scoring Rookard  making the score 3-1 in favor of the Wolves. 
 
In the top of the 5th Huntingdon opened with a single but Richey was thrown out attempting to steal. A bunt single and a double later and Huntingdon had runners at 2nd and 3rd with 1 out. Huntingdon hit a fly ball to center which was caught but scored on a throwing error as Wesleyan attempted to stop the runner from 3rd from tagging up. That run closed the gap to 3-2. In the bottom of the 5th after a Huntingdon double play, JJ Wright walked, Tihana Zupanic singled and a Janae Rookard rbi double to left scored Wright to extend the lead to 4-2. 
 
In the top of the 6th inning Huntingdon strung together 2 base hits and with two out and 1st and 3rd Kimmy Dick struck out the Huntingdon batter but the ball got past catcher Presly Edwards and went to the back stop as Huntingdon scored their 3rd run because the batter beat the throw safely to first base making the score 4-3.
 
In the top of the 7th inning Janae Rookard got out number 1 for the Wolves on a diving catch in left field. Two walks later and Huntingdon was threatening again. But starting pitcher Kimmy Dick induced a pop up to herself and a fly to left field to end the game. Kimmy Dick pitched the complete game finishing with 4 strikeouts and improving to 12-6 on the year. Wesleyan remains in the winner's bracket of the double elimination pod and will play the winner of the Pfeiffer University and Huntingdon College elimination game. The game will be played on Saturday, April 30th at 1PM.
