Wolves drop opening CCS Match-up at Belhaven

The Wesleyan Wolves softball program opened CCS play with a pair of losses at the hands of the Belhaven Blazers 8-0 and 15-4. Tihana Zupanic led the way offensively for the Wolves finishing the day 4-5 at the plate with a pair of doubles and 3 RBIs.

Game 1:

Tihana Zupancic started in the circle for the Wolves and navigated the high octane offense of Belhaven admirably, holding them to 1 run scored on the first two hitters of the game for the first 3 innings. An error and a pass ball led to another run for Belhaven in the 3rd to make the score 2-0. While the Wolves defense led by Zupancic kept the Blazer offense at bay, Belhaven starter Kennedy Carruth was proving to be quite the test as she was perfect through the 4th inning before Zupancic dropped a single into center field. The Wolvers were unable to plate a run and the big bats of Belhaven fired up in the 6th to plate 5 and end the game with a final score of 8-0.

Game 2:

The Wolves offense came roaring out of the gates as they took a 2-0 lead in the first. Taylor Frye got things started for the Wolves with a line drive single off the centerfield wall. She scored on a double by Zupancic who was later brought home on a 2 out RBI single by Katelyn McCord. Belhaven answered quickly in the bottom of the first however with 4 of their own to run the score to 4-2 Blazers. The game stayed at 4-2 Until the Blazer offense exploded for 11 runs in the 3rd with a little help from some shaky Wolves defense to take a 15-2 lead. The Wolves answered back with 2 runs in the 4th when Belhaven put 2 runners on via walks and Tihana Zupancic sent them home with another double in the gap. That would be the end of the scoring however and the game would end after the 5th with a final score of 15-4.

The Wolves will be back in action TUesday as they take on Clark Atlanta University in a non-conference matchup at home starting at 4pm and 6pm.
