Wolves Basketball Drops First Conference Game of Season

Montgomery, AL - In their first USA South match up of the season, the Wesleyan College basketball team came up short against a strong Huntingdon starting five, falling 66-48 to the Hawks.

Notables:

  • Three Wesleyan players recorded double digits for the Wolves offense. Forward Lexie Russell just missed a double-double with 15 points and eight rebounds, while guard Taylor Thigpen netted 16 points and pulled down five boards. Newcomer TK Blount also notched 12 points to go along with four steals.
  • Huntingdon's starting lineup scored 59 of the team's 66 points and played the vast majority of the game. Their front line dominated the boards all night, outrebounding the Wolves 59-34.

Quotable:
"I thought we played well for three of four quarters tonight, but a stagnant second quarter really did us in," remarked Wesleyan head basketball coach Nicky DiMarzio. "We fought hard in the fourth, cutting their lead to nine, but we couldn't get any closer. Taylor Thigpen had a solid offensive performance and Lex put up big numbers again. We were definitely more competitive than we've ever been, but unfortunately, we can't only play 75% of the game and expect to finish on top."
