Depth and Consistency Propel Berea Past Wesleyan Basketball

Macon, GA - In their final appearance of the first semester, the Wesleyan College basketball team fell to USA South newcomer Berea College, 78-46.

Notables:

  • Junior point guard Taylor Thigpen led the Wolves with 15 points, six rebounds, and three assists, while Lexie Russell and Taylor Hauser collected 10 points each.
  • Berea used a balanced attack and a deep bench to defeat the Wolves. 13 of 14 Mountaineers who played in the game scored a basket and only three Berea players recorded more than 20 minutes in the game.
  • Berea won the battle on the boards, 57-30, collecting 22 offensive rebounds and scoring 23 second chance points to hold off the Wolves.

Quotable:
"We were plagued by turnovers today and bothered by Berea's relentless pressure," remarked Wesleyan head coach Nicky DiMarzio. "Fatigue from playing on short rest really showed, but we need to play smarter overall. We turned the ball over entirely too much with unforced errors and need to be better about that. A nice break right now is going to help us recover and reload for second semester conference play."
