Wolves Basketball to Kickoff 2017 Season with Home Debut

Macon, GA. – Wesleyan College will open its first home game tonight in Porter Gymnasium against Toccoa Falls under four year returning Head Coach Nicole DiMarzio.

Pre-Season Poll

Wesleyan was been placed eighth in the USA South Conference West Division pre-season poll while defending champions Maryville and Piedmont both tying in at first place. The Wolves finished the 2016 season with an overall record of 4-20 and 1-13 in conference.

“Although we were picked last in the conference, we expect to not just compete but give many teams some issues with our athleticism,” remarks Coach DiMarzio. “Losing four key players from last year will hurt our depth. We will definitely have to stay out of foul trouble to be successful.”

Returners

This season the Wolf pack has a roster of six returners and three newcomers. Returning players include juniors guard Taylor Thigpen and forward Alexis Russell.  Thigpen averaged 10.5pts and 3.2 rebounds and was ranked 16th for FT and 23rd in scoring in conference. Along with rankings, Russell placed 16th in offensive rebounding and 14th overall.

Other returners include forward Taylor Hauser and sophomore center Sherricka Sims, who Coach DiMarzio remarked as all being helpful keys to Wesleyan’s overall tremendous athleticism.

Up Next

Following today’s game, the Wolves are set to face off against Berry College on Monday, Nov. 20th at 6PM EST.

Coach Remarks

“We will play Toccoa Falls, Berry College and jump right into conference play quickly versus Huntingdon, Berea and Brevard. We will need to have short memories and rebound from each game quickly.”
