Nesmith records double double as Wolves fall at home

Marilynn Nesmith recorded 14 points and 12 rebounds for Wesleyan, but it wasn't nearly enough to overcome a visiting Huntingdon team that came into Wednesdays match up having already recorded 14 wins. Given their recent road trip with only 5 players, the Wolves did, at least, acquire two subs this game which provided them a bit of a reprieve in the face of Huntingdon's overwhelming depth. Huntingdon finished the game having played 16 players with most of them logging double digit minutes, and all but one of them scoring. In the end, the defensive pressure of the visiting team was too much for Wesleyan, as Huntingdon recorded 34 steals as a team.

After the game Coach Kyle Herring shared this, "I'm proud of the girls. They never give up. Right now we have a team full of softball players, a soccer player, and one that has never played before this year. Looking at scores, you would think these were miserable games to be a part of, but I am enjoying trying to teach players a game they don't play. It is refreshing. They listen. They try to do things to help their teammates out. We still have players learning the rules, learning what a screen is. The crazy thing is, when they have possessions where we can all be in the same page, it looks like we have been playing together all year."

Evidence of Coach Herring's teaching tactics were evident last night as he installed a new offense in the second quarter that actually paid dividends for the rest of the game. While this tactic might seem counterproductive as opposed to coming in to a game with an established offensive game plan, it's important to keep in mind that Wesleyan basketball has had to endure dozens of roster changes over the course of this season. As Herring mentioned above most of his players are at Wesleyan primarily to play other sports which means they don't have suffucuent preparation time when it comes to basketball.

The Wolves will try to rebound from defeat when they travel to Covenant on Saturday. The game will tip off at 1:00 PM.
