"I am extremely excited and grateful for the opportunity that Coach Siqueiros and Wesleyan College has given to me. I look forward to the challenge of building the program into one that is competitive on a yearly basis. I am eager to get to meet the young ladies here and to get to work. The Wesleyan College Women's Basketball Team will work hard in the classroom, on the court, and in the community."
In accepting the position, Herring additionally commented, "There are so many people I would like to thank at this point. First, I would like to thank my parents. My dad put a love of basketball in my heart at a young age, not just playing but watching and understanding the game. My mother for always being positive and encouraging me throughout my life. All of my high school coaches (4 of them are in the Illinois High School Coaches Hall of Fame for their respective sport). They taught me so many lessons that I have carried through with my present coaching. To Coach Greg Franklin, who gave me my first college coaching job and after 8 years still had me around. I have learned so many details from him. 'Details make perfection. And perfection is not a detail (Leonardo Da Vinci).' To Mickey Barrett, Michael Wells, Tonya Edwards, Jeremy Lewis, Jessica Grayson, Carla Petree, & all coaches that have given me an opportunity to work for them: thank you. Thank you all."
Kyle Herring comes to Wesleyan and Macon, Georgia from Chipola College in Florida. At Chipola, Herring assisted the program in capturing the 2014-2015 NJCAA National Championship in a 34-1 record setting season. During his time at Chipola in both 2013-2015 & 2016-2018, Herring saw 3rd place in the NJCAA National Tournament, three Elite 8 finishes, two conference titles, and two NJCAA region 8 titles.
In 2015-2016, he spent a year at South Plains College in Texas, assisting a program with 0 players returning the year prior, developing the team which qualified for the NJCAA Region 5 Tournament in rout to a 20-11 season. Prior to Chipola and South Plains, he spent time at NAIA affiliated Cumberland University (2019-2012), Frank Phillips College (2007-2008), and Southeastern Illinois College (2003-2006).
Kyle Herring is highly regarded in the basketball recruiting scene. At Chipola, all but 1 player in Herring's time has gone on to compete at the NCAA Division 1 level. In 2011, he recruited TranSouth Freshmen of the Year and All-Amercan Honorable Mention, Casie Cowan. In 2005-2006, he recruited and coached the 9th overall pick (1st round) of the 2008 WNBA Draft, Amber Holt, who played for the Connecticut Sun and Tulsa Shock for 4 years.
Herring holds his Bachelor of Arts degree in University Studies from the University of Detroit Mercy & Associate of Arts degree from Southeastern Illinois College.
