Wolves Leave FL With A Victory

Macon, GA- The Wolves basketball team stayed in Pensacola, FL to match up against the Suns of Johnson College (FL) bringing home a 53-45 victory. Otashae Burrage led the Wesleyan attack, setting her season high with 16 points including 4-7 from three point range. Mia Walker and Jamila-Ra Hashim contributed 11 and 9 points off the bench respectively, giving the Wolves a boost and helping them outscore the Suns bench 25-6.  Ra-Hashim also pulled down 8 rebounds to lead the Wolves. 

 

Wesleyan was in control from the opening quarter erasing an early 5-0 deficit to end the quarter leading the Suns 13-8. Janiya Simmons came off the bench to get things going for the Wolves scoring the first 5 Wesleyan points of the game. Walker and Burrage both knocked down three balls to put the Wolves on top. The Suns battled back in the second quarter to take a 21-16 lead with under 2 minutes to play in the half. Coming out of a Wesleyan time out Burrage got hot and hit two huge three point baskets with time expiring to cut the Johnson lead to 23-22 with 20 minutes to play. 

 

Briscia Tejada hit a 3 point basket 8 seconds into the 2nd half to give the Wolves a 25-22 lead and they never looked back from there out scoring the Suns 17-8 in the 3rd quarter to take a 39-31 lead, and then traded baskets in the 4th quarter to take home the 53-45 victory. 

 

The Wolves have a bit of break with Thanksgiving this week and no class. They will be back on the court November 26th as they travel to Charlotte NC to take on Queens University. That game is scheduled to start at 2:00PM.
