The Wesleyan Wolves soccer program fell to the Stormy Petrels of Oglethorpe University by a scoreline of 2-0 in Atlanta on Friday night.

Wesleyan controlled a large portion of the first 32' minutes of the match before momentum switched to the home side for the remainder of the match. After a scoreless first 55' minutes, a loose ball and scrum occured into the Wesleyan penalty area and found the foot of Kayla Trice (Oglethorpe) who put it home in the 56' minute to put Oglethorpe up by 1. In the 70' minute, a corner kick opportunity low & driven to the near post saw Nicolette Andrey (Oglethorpe) find the back of the net to secure the win for the Storm Petrels. Wesleyan Junior Carlee Dykes saw 17 shots in the match, recording 7 saves in the season opening loss.

After the match, Head Coach Don Tees commented "We played a decent game and I'm proud of the ladies. Not the result we were looking for in our opening match, but we saw our potential and what we can do when we start to play with a positive mindset. A couple of mistakes and missed chances were the difference in this match but was up for grabs otherwise. The hope is to build off this and get to work next Tuesday to continue progressing forward as a program."

The Wolves look to jump back into it on September 7th as they play Rowan University in North Carolina at the Pfeiffer University Women's Soccer Tournament. The match is set for 6:00pm EST.
