Wesleyan and Guilford Tie in Double Overtime

The Wesleyan Wolves rallied from a two score deficit to tie with the Guilford Quakers in a weekend match today. The match was played at neutral site Piedmont College.

The Wolves trailed at the half 3-1 with their only goal scored by Freshman Alyssa Key off of a great pass from Fetlework Blitch. From halftime, the offense was all Wesleyan beginning with a goal in the 48th minute by Q Brandon with an assist from Freshman Thi Soe. The Wolves would tie the game 3-3 in the 63rd minute off of Junior Nadia Al-Shahabi with an assist by Thi Soe. The game would then go into two overtimes with neither team gaining the edge.

The Quakers out shot the Wolves 33-21 yet Senior Carlee Dykes' 13 saves helped keep the Wolves on the hunt this evening.

Head Coach Seth Semones was very proud of how the team played this evening. "The scoreboard doesn't show a win but tonight was a huge victory for this years' squad. to battle back from being down 3-1 at the half was impressive! The girls never quit. Their energy was unmatched. Ending the game in a tie speaks little of how well they stayed together as a unit, battled hard, and made the night ours. We may have tied tonight, but the ride home will feel victorious", he said.

When asked about his key players on the evening, Coach Semones said, "Junior Nadia Al-Shahabi had an incredible game in the midfield and added a crucial goal to the score line. Junior Fetlework Blitch battled incredibly in the attack. Finally, Senior Q Brandon had a stunner game, as she held down the back line and also tallied a great goal."

The Wolves move to 1-1-1 on the season and follow up this exciting game with a match tomorrow at Berry College.
