New Look Wolves Ready To Take The Field

Macon, GA- The Wesleyan Wolves soccer program is back on campus and preparing hard for their first match coming up on the 1st of September at Thomas University, with a pre-season exhibition match scheduled for 8/28 at MGA. The Wolves have a new look about them this season with head coach Seth Berkebile, entering his 3rd year as head coach, bringing in the largest recruitment class the Wolves Soccer program has seen in many years.

"The athletes we have coming in are going to have a chance to get on the field early and often for us this season." Said Berkebile, "They have been brought in to address holes we felt we could improve in our starting line-up, as well as add much needed depth off the bench."

While Wesleyan has a number of new faces, they are also returning most of the starting lineup from last season. One of those returners is Junior Goalkeeper Angel Lockett. "Angel had a great season in goal for us last year and showed up this year looking like she is ready to go. We are very excited to see what she can do for us." Said Berkebile. Lockett started 13 games for the Wolves saving 213 of 275 shots for a save percentage of 77.5%. Coach Berkebile also mentioned returning Sophomore midfielder Veronica Pacheco. "I can see Veronica being an anchor for us in the midfield. Having a full season of experience under her belt now, Veronica could play a big part in our offense this Fall."

"I have been really impressed with the team so far this preseason." Continued Berkebile. "The Freshman all showed up in shape and ready to go, and the upperclassmen have done a great job taking the new faces under their wing and making everybody feel like part of the family."

The Wolves are in a youth movement as they look to take a step forward this year. The leadership of the upperclassmen paired with the incoming youth has campus abuzz with the start of this upcoming season. "We are really excited for this season." Said Berkebile, "This is an opportunity for us to make Wesleyan Soccer competitive in the CCS and have a season we can build on for years to come. I can't wait to see what this team can do."

You can catch the Wolves in their home opener at Panoz Field at noon on Monday September 4th as they take on Mississippi University For Women.
