Macon, GA - The Wesleyan College cross country team saw significant improvement in their times this weekend at the Mercer RunFit Invitational at the Georgia Children's Industrial Home course near campus. The Pioneers were one of 19 teams competing in the race.

Senior Ashly Annechhiarico once again led the way for the Pioneers, finishing 146th with a time of 27:29. Sophomore Christina Mayfield, a member of last year's GSAC All-Freshman team who is recovering from surgery and easing her way back into action, made her cross country debut this weekend, finishing 156th with a time of 30:01. Sheila Walton (159th - 31:04), Ahbin Kim (162nd - 32:01), Jessie Spannagel (164th - 34:21) and Linda Marie Tonn (166th - 36:28) also competed for the Pioneers. Kim saw an improvement of nearly four minutes from last week's race, while Spannagel picked up almost six minutes on her time.

""Most of our runners improved their times, some by as much as three or four minutes,"" remarked head coach Krista Wieters. ""I'm really proud of their effort and look forward to watching our times continue to drop as the season progresses.""

The Pioneers compete at the Truett-McConnell XC Invitational in Cleveland, Ga., this weekend before tackling the GSAC Pre-Conference course in two weeks.
