Wesleyan Cross Country Finishes Season on High Note

Tallulah Falls, GA - The Wesleyan College cross country team competed in the USA South Conference Championship on Saturday morning, finishing 14th out of 15 schools. The race was a 6k course, and the Wolves runners showed tremendous improvement in their times from the first race of the season, which was a 6k as well, to today.

Berea College was the overall team winner, finishing 24 points ahead of runner up Covenant College. Methodist freshman Lindsey Prichard was the first runner to cross the finish line with a time of 22:49.58, which was nearly six seconds ahead of Covenant's Lilly Smith.

Wesleyan's results from today's meet are as follows:

65 Chyla Brown SO 31:08.25
81 Amy Milligan JR 34:53.47
82 Tyler Walker FR 34:55.53
84 Stephanie Artola SR 36.22.91
86 Paloma Velasco FR 39:44.99

From the first meet of the season to today, Brown shaved 8:30 off her time, while Tyler Walker and Stephanie Artola improved by 9:15 and 7:00, respectively.

Wesleyan head coach Alex Kosicki stated,"We didn't finish last as a team for the first time this season, and I'm so proud of our effort and committment to improving this year. Our team, seeing this conference championship as the equivalent to a Super Bowl or Game 7 of the World Series, brought everything they had and left it all on the course today. From day one, this group has worked incredibly hard, battling injuries to get to this point, and the pride I have in them is overwhelming. They have set the tone for this program for years to come."

At last evening's conference banquet, Chyla Brown was recognized as Wesleyan's All-Sportsmanship Team honoree.

"Chyla has been nothing short of spectacular this season," Kosicki added. "Her improvement both on and off the trails has been phenomenal, and she has led our team all season. I am so proud of all of her accomplishments and I am excited to have her back next year."
