A select amount of USA South Athletic Conference softball teams and individuals were recently recognized for their academic success during the 2017-18 year by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA). There were 59 individual players from eight teams named All-America Scholar-Athletes while two programs, Piedmont College and William Peace University, were on the Easton/NFCA All-Academic Team. Hannah Allen of Wesleyan College Softball received NCAA Division III All-American Scholar Athlete status by the NFCA.

Other individual scholar-athletes came from Agnes Scott College, Berea College, Mary Baldwin University, Pfeiffer University, Piedmont College, Salem College, and William Peace University.

Athletes who achieve a 3.5 or better GPA on a 4.0 scale were recognized as NFCA Scholar Athletes. Across all divisions, NCAA Division III led the way with 1,600 student-athletes earning a 3.5 grade-point average or higher for 2017-18.
