Wolves Come Up Short at Covenant

The Wesleyan Wolves were back in action this afternoon traveling to Lookout Mountain, GA. to face Conference opponent Covenant College. The Wolves were looking for their first win of the season while Covenant was looking to improve their Conference record to 2-1 on the season. The Wolves went into halftime trailing by just four points and edged closer to the lead during the third period, coming within one point during the period; but the Covenant Scots would prevail with a final score of 50-61.

Throughout the game, the Wolves showed off what they had been working on all during the break, their defense. Defensively, the Wolves had 20 steals, 2 blocks, 27 forced turnovers, and 29 defensive rebounds on the night. Freshman Ta'Liyah Slocumb lead the defense with 9 rebounds and 5 steals.

There were many improvements seen in the offense as well. The Wolves had three players in the game in double digit point totals. Freshmen Davina Brown and Jamila Ra-Hashim each had 14 points, and Freshman Natera Perkins had 11 on the night. The Wolves outscored the Scots in the paint 34-30.

Coach Kyle Herring was very proud of the way the Wolves played this afternoon after a long break. " For us to have 20 steals and 27 turnovers is a gigantic improvement defensively. Tonight was huge for us on defense. Offensively, we have to clean up some things there. 96% of our points were scored by freshmen. We will continue to improve and we have shown that throughout the past few games," Coach Herring said of this Wolves' performance.

The Wolves are back in action January 7th at Piedmont College at 6:00PM.
