Wolves Earn First Win of Season Tonight!

The Wolves took on Agnes Scott tonight in a very important Conference match up. Both schools entered the game looking for their first win of the season. Wesleyan entered in the game looking for the first win just over a season and a half. Coach Kyle Herring was looking for his first win as a head coach. The table was set for a plethora of firsts by the game's end for sure.

The Scotties of Agnes Scott would begin the game strong, leading at the end of the first quarter with a score of 11-20. Wesleyan has had a hard time all season coming back from deficits more than ten points. They would answer in the second but still go into halftime down by 8. The third quarter was evenly matched for both teams but the Wolves perservered and really came alive in the fourth outscoring Agnes Scott by 13 points in the quarter to come away with the win.

This win was a total team effort. The offense tonight was lead by Freshmen Natera Perkins and BreAsia Davis who each had 16 points on the night followed by Freshman Nala Lawrence with 10 points. The Wesleyan bench scored 27 on the night. The defense was ready for the night as well. Wesleyan scored 25 points tonight off of 15 steals by the defense. Freshman Davina Brown lead the rebounds with 9 on the night.

Head Coach Kyle Herring was very proud of this win tonight. " I am so proud of these young women! They have battled all year and finally got one to go their way. They deserve this so much. As I told them after the game: this is the first time in at least four years that Wesleyan has not been at the bottom of the conference. I hope they really enjoy this moment," Herring said of his team's first victory in almost two seasons.

Junior Marilyn NeSmith, the lone returner on the team, was very happy and relieved to get her first win as well. When asked how she felt about the win tonight, Marilyn said, " It was an awesome team effort. All of our dedication and hard work finally paid off. Hope to get some more this season."

The Wolves are back in action Tuesday, January 28, against LaGrange College at home.
