Oglethorpe Bests Wolves in Nail Biter!

Oglethorpe Bests Wolves in Nail Biter!

Coming into the weekend finale match between Oglethorpe University and Wesleyan College, the Petrels of Oglethorpe had not allowed a goal this season. With a 6-0 record, that is a very impressive record. The Petrels would come out with high intensity this afternoon starting with their first goal within the first ten minutes and their second within the first twenty five minutes.

Freshman Thi Soe would end the streak for the Petrels by scoring the Wolves' two goals in the forty fourth and forty eighth minutes. The game would remain tied 2-2 for almost the rest of the second half. The second half was all Wolves defense. The back line played incredible while keeping the high powered Petrel offense at bay. Freshman Kieran Burkey would ultimately break the defense and score the game winning goal in the eighty fifth minute for the Petrels.

Coach Seth Semones was very pleased with the amount of intensity and response from his young team today. "Tonight was a big night for us. Oglethorpe stunned us early in the first half. My conversation with the players was about how we are to respond and how people want us to be known by this year. Thi Soe scored two massive goals in response to the first 43 minutes of chaos. I am proud of how well organized and grew through the match. We never backed down and Oglethorpe on their heels much of the second half. This was a great game as we prep for regular season champs Maryville next weekend," Coach Semones said in his post game interview.

The Wolves are back in action again Saturday, September 28th at 2:00PM against Maryville.
