Wolves Drop Nail Biter to Brewton Parker

Macon, GA-  The Wesleyan Wolves volleyball team hosted the Brewton Parker Lady Barons at Porter Gymnasium dropping the match in 4 sets. While the score shows 3 sets to 1, this match was much closer than it appears with the Wolves leading late in the 2nd and 3rd sets before Brewton Parker was able to make a late push winning both sets by finals of 26-24. Freshman hitter Breya Cobb had another fantastic night and is beginning to make her presence felt everytime she steps on the court, leading the Wolves in points with 14.5 consisting of 8 kills, 3 solo blocks, 5 block assists, and a service ace. Jaylyn Randle had her best night for the Wolves this season with 9 points consisting of 4 kills, 3 service aces, 3 block assists, a solo block, and 7 digs on the defensive side. 

 

The Wolves took the first set by a final of 25-14 led by Sophomore Janiya Simmons who finished the set with 3 kills and a dig. Cobb, Randle, and Freshman Mayah Misi controlled the net with 9 block assists in the set. The second and third sets were tightly contested matchups in which the Lady Barons came out on top 26-24 in both sets. Lativa Ray contributed 5 kills during the second and third sets, while Breya Cobb continued to dominate at the net with 3 solo blocks. Freshman Pippa Tilley was everywhere on the defensive side recording 13 digs in the middle two sets of play. Breya Cobb recorded 4 more kills in the 4th set to try to keep the match alive for the Wolves, but they were unable to fend off the Lady Barons who took the final set by a score of 25-18.

 

The Wolves get a chance at revenge as they match up against the Lady Barons at Brewton Parker this coming Monday September 18th.
