The Wesleyan Wolves Cross Country team competed today in the Eagles XC Challenge in Statesboro, Georgia. The Wolves would come home with a team finish of sixth (6th) place. Coach Long was very proud of the improvements overall from his program. "We came in the meet today more prepared for hills and better prepared mentally for what being a more competitive team means. I am super proud of how hard my runners worked over the past two weeks. Some of them ended with tremendous improvements on their times," Coach Long said after the meet.
Most notable of those improvements came from Junior Tyler Walker who shaved off almost four minutes from her times at the Middle Georgia Invitational. "Ty has worked hard the past two weeks with setting some personal run time goals and meeting those goals. Her and Senior Chyla Brown have teamed up to set goals for themselves for each race and it's just fun to see them push themselves towards those goals like we saw today," said Long.
The Wolves ran their second race of the year but their first with a complete team was today. Two runners, both soccer players had a very late ending to a home game last night and competed this morning with improved times also. Coach Long commented on having his two multi-sport, inseason athletes available today saying, "To have been at the game last night and watching Hannah (Motes) and Alicia (Ramirez) play as hard as they did then, it just blew me away how hard they pushed this morning as well. True competitors those two."
The final results are as follows:
Chyla Brown 23rd place 25:47
Marilynn NeSmith 33rd place 28:12
Hannah Motes 35th place 30:11
Alicia Ramirez 39th place 32:18
Sarah Wise 44th place 36:01
Tyler Walker 46th place 40:18
Team: 6th place
